The program balances therapeutic work with fun activities and exercise. Many past residents have commented that while at Peak House, they re-learned how much fun they can have without drugs and alcohol.
Fitness
Four times a week residents take part in fitness. Typical fitness outings include going to swimming pools and/or fitness centres (self paced cardio and weight-lifting workouts), racquetball and skating. There are also yoga classes twice a month. Other activities include tennis, basketball and soccer, weather permitting. During the summer months we often take advantage of the Lower Mainland’s many outdoor pools.
Movie Night
On Friday nights residents can relax and enjoy Movie Night: two videos plus a soft drink, popcorn and chips.
Games Night
Sunday and Monday evenings are games nights. This often includes ping-pong, foosball (table soccer) and air hockey, and we also have a wide variety of board games. Card games tend to be very popular amongst both the residents and staff.
Weekend Outings
There are two outings on Saturday, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Here are some of the outings Peak House residents have enjoyed in the past:• Bowling • Billiards• Science World • Granville Island• Hiking in Lynn Canyon and Lighthouse Park• Site-seeing at Cypress and Grouse Mountain• Capilano Suspension Bridge • Richmond’s Watermania• Skating at the Richmond Olympic Oval • Karaoke• New release movies• 3D Imax films• Live theatre • Live music at GM Place• Vancouver Giants hockey games • Vancouver Aquarium
We also have attended many local community festivals and cultural events
Arts and Crafts
Peak House has a cupboard that is well-stocked with supplies for painting and drawing, beading, collage-making and other crafts. Residents are encouraged to help themselves to these supplies whenever they have free time. Additionally, Thursday afternoons are set aside for “creative expression”. This may involve activities at the house, or outings to Granville Island, a ceramics shop, or even to the beach.
